Spina Bifida Procedure

A team from Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and University College London Hospitals (UCLH) have carried out the first two operations on the damaged spinal cords of babies in the womb, in what are the first surgeries of their kind in the UK.  Until now, mums could choose to have the fetal surgery abroad or have postnatal surgery after the baby is born, which is the current practice in the UK.

WONKY produced this film to explain the surgical procedure and show the experienced team it takes to successfully undertake such innovative surgery.  The approachable illustrations were designed by Cami to ensure even the most squeamish could watch the entire film to reach the happy ending – both mums and babies are doing well!
