The Water Safety Code
After the success of their animated film for last year’s ‘Drowning Prevention Week’, the Royal Life Saving Society decided to modernise their old film on the water safety code. WONKY were asked to create it in the same contemporary illustration style, building on the existing life guard characters. The film was based on a range of settings to provide children with visual reminders of the four main steps to keeping safe in the water: Stop and Think, Stay Together, Call 999 and Float. Launching in time for the summer holidays, the film raised awareness of how everyone can safely have fun in the water.
RESULTS
The animation was shared far and wide across the charity’s social media channels and became the top performing post on RLSS UK’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts during the campaign month. Of those who viewed the animation on Instagram, a huge 95% were non followers, indicating that it had directly helped the charity reach new audiences with its safety messaging, thereby ensuring more people could enjoy water safely. All of this was achieved organically.
RLSS UK conducted research with parents after the campaign which showed that 89% of parents who watched the animation said that it told them something new and 92% agreed it made them think again about water safety, proving that the animation had resonated with parents as planned.
“WONKY were fantastic to work with on our Drowning Prevention Week animation. We wanted to create something that delivered a very important message but in a fun and engaging way and the team certainly helped us achieve that. They were very professional from start to finish, understood exactly what we wanted and had a good grasp of the charity.
With the help of WONKY we have been able to create two extremely successful animations which have been shared far and wide across social media and delivered messages to families about water safety. Research has shown that the latest animation has changed the way parents think about water safety, a hugely positive outcome.
The animations have also now started to influence other aspects of the charity as we use the characters created in further educational materials. We are sure we will work with WONKY again in the future.” – Head of Charity Communications, RLSS
